Thomas (Tommy) J Sutherland, 58 of Holmdel, New Jersey, passed away unexpectedly at Bayshore Medical Center on Thursday morning, February 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Tommy was born on June 6th, 1965, in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up and met the love of his life, his wife, Alyce (O’Neill) Sutherland. Tommy and Alyce were married on June 4, 1988. In 1992 they moved to New Jersey where their daughter Megan was born. Tommy loved nothing more than becoming a father and raising his beautiful family with his loving wife. Tommy settled his family in Monmouth County in 2002, where he relished every moment living with “his girls” whom he loved dearly.
Tommy was predeceased by his father, Kenneth G. Sutherland and his brother Robert E. Sutherland. Tommy is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years Alyce (nee O’Neill) Sutherland, his loving daughter Megan Sutherland, his mother Patricia (Balinski)Sutherland of Edison, NJ, brother Kenneth J Sutherland and his wife Vera of Staten Island, NY, his sister-in-law Mary Sutherland of Edison, NJ and his siblings in law, Bobby & Nancy, Kevin & Johnson, Thomass, and Stephanie. Tommy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends who are family. Most of all Tommy was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Tommy had a contagious smile that would always brighten the faces of his family and friends. Uncle Tommy was the fun uncle to numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who always gravitated towards him for a source of endless laughter and his playful spirit.
Tommy was a loyal fan of the New York Giants and loved "heading south" to AC. After working in the water main industry all his life, he accomplished his goal of acquiring Allboro Water and Sewer Corp. Tommy’s commitment to hard work and honesty set a standard admired by his family, friends, colleagues, and customers.
