Susan Silva, 71, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away at home on Thursday, September 14, 2023. She was born Susan Mary Maksel on May 3, 1952, in Bayonne, New Jersey. She spent her early childhood living on York Street in Jersey City, before moving to Bayonne with her family where she attended St. Joseph’s School and Bayonne High School. After high school, Susan married and had three children. She was a devoted stay at home mom until returning to work at Maidenform, Inc. She also worked at the Bayonne High School Cafeteria and the Community Day Nursery School, all in Bayonne.
In 2020, Susan retired and moved to Hazlet, New Jersey, where she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing solitaire, doing crosswords, and watching old television shows such as the Andy Griffith Show and Murder, She Wrote. Most of all, Susan was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. She was a strong and resilient woman, having survived uterine cancer, a heart attack, and two cases of colon cancer. She loved her family, her country, and will be forever missed. Her family and all who knew and loved her will be forever be missing a piece of their heart in Susan’s loss.
She was predeceased by her parents, Victor and Marie (Rudy) Maksel, and her sister, Patricia (Maksel) Tenety. Susan is survived by her loving children, Jennifer Pivano and her husband, Craig, of Hazlet, David Silva and his wife, Nicole, of Browns Mills, and Christopher Silva and his girlfriend, Regina, of North Arlington, her dear sister, Donna Goepfert, and her cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Jack, Emma, Lucas, and Jenna, along with many treasured extended family members and friends and her beloved grand-dogs.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, September 17, 2023, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A prayer service will be offered at the funeral home at approximately 5:00 PM. In respect of Susan’s wishes, she will be privately cremated.
