Margaret Crennan Obituary

Our beloved Mother and Nana, Margaret A. Crennan passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024.  She was 80 years old.  The outpouring of love from family and friends has been uplifting and a testament to the beautiful life Marge lived.

She was born Margaret Rail on October 26, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up.  After graduating from Midwood High School, Marge worked as a secretary for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, New York, and it was during her subway ride to work that she met the love of her life, Gerard (Gerry).  Marge loved to tell the story of how she would tell her mother that there was such a handsome young man on her subway train, but that he was losing his hair.  Her mother would tell her that hair wasn’t the most important thing about a person, that it mattered if he was a good man, and Marge would always say that he was indeed a great man.  Marge and Gerry would go on to marry on June 13, 1964, and eventually move to Hazlet, New Jersey, where Marge devoted her life to raising their 3 daughters.  Marge would go back to work as a secretary for Wells Fargo Bank in Red Bank, New Jersey, from where she would retire.

Family was what mattered most to Margaret.  She couldn’t stress it enough.  Marge loved to reminisce about the times spent with her brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren, and how she cherished those memories.

In her spare time, when she wasn’t serving as First Mate to Captain Gerry on their boat, Happy Days, enjoying many wonderful adventures, Marge enjoyed doing cross stitch, bowling with her teammates at the Airport bowling alley, skiing and reading.  Marge always had to have her daily newspaper to read and enjoyed doing her word puzzles.

She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Catherine Rail, her beloved husband, Gerard J. Crennan, and her siblings, Catherine Kalafsky and James Rail., her brother in law, Thomas Crennan. Left to cherish Marge’s memory are her 3 daughters, Catherine Negra and her husband, Gary, Barbara DeLorenzi and her husband, Dan, and Peggy D’Acunto and her husband, Sebastian, her dear siblings, Thomas Rail and his wife, Eileen, Joan Gardiner and her husband, John, and her sister-in-law, Diane Crennan.

Marge’s greatest role was that of a proud Nana to her six grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Daniel, Jack, Kelly and Sarah.
