Leonarda Manzella, 85, of Aberdeen, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey. She was born Leonarda Maggio on February 22, 1938, in Alia, Italy, where she grew up. Leonarda met her beloved husband, Giuseppe in Italy and on October 13, 1956, they were married and began their life together. Shortly after their marriage, Leonarda and Giuseppe immigrated to the United States, starting out in Newark, New Jersey, where they began their family. In 1971, they relocated to Irvington, followed by Union in 1978. Ultimately in 1998, they settled in Aberdeen, New Jersey, where they currently resided. Before Leonarda’s retirement, she worked as a Seamstress for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Most of all, Leonarda was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ignazio and Salvatrice (Fanara) Maggio, her siblings, Rosolino Maggio and Gaetana Calamusa, and her brothers-in-law, Frank Abrusci and Petro Calamusa. Leonarda is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 67 years, Giuseppe Manzella, her loving children, Michael Manzella and his wife, Cheryl, of Freehold, Agata Manzella of Howell, and Ignazio Manzella and his wife, JoAnn, of Aberdeen, her dear sister, Agata Abrusci, and her sister-in-law, Maria Volpe, along with her cherished grandchildren, Michael Manzella, Christie LaTorre and her husband, Antonio, Vincent Manzella, Gabrielle Manzella, Gianna Manzella, and Dominic Manzella, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday morning, February 23, 2024, from 9:15 to 10:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday morning, February 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, New Jersey 07936.
