Kenneth "Ken" Zuar Obituary

Kenneth “Ken” John Zuar, 77, who was born on December 6, 1948, in New York City, New York, passed away on May 18, 2026, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, with his loving family by his side. He was a loving, gentle, and wise man whose life was marked by devotion to his family, his work, and the many simple joys that brought him happiness.

Ken was predeceased by his beloved parents, Armando and Rose (Rotolo) Zuar. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lilian (Lercari) Zuar; his caring daughters, Jessica O’Donnell and her husband T.J. of Hazlet, New Jersey, and Lisa Catena and her husband Daniel, also of Hazlet, New Jersey; his cherished grandchildren, Morgan, Madison and Makayla O’Donnell and Aidan Catena; and his dear siblings, Gary Zuar and his wife Kathleen of Greenport, Long Island, Brian Zuar and his wife Joanne of Brooklyn, New York, and Carol Ann Zuar of Queens, New York. He also leaves behind a family who will forever treasure his steady presence, his kind heart, and the example he set through the way he lived his life.

Ken was born and raised in New York City, where he spent his early years until meeting the love of his life, Lilian, in Greenwich Village. Their love story began in the heart of the city and grew into a lifelong partnership built on devotion, respect, and shared purpose. They were married on July 10, 1971, and after their marriage Ken joined Lilian in Weehawken, New Jersey. Later, they made their home in Hazlet, New Jersey, where they raised their daughters with love and care. About 25 years ago, they moved to Holmdel, New Jersey, where they remained and built a life filled with family, memories, and enduring love.

Before beginning his career as an engineer, Ken served his country honorably in the Army National Guard. Following his military service, Ken devoted his professional life to a long and dedicated career as a Mechanical Engineer with Jaros Baum & Bolles in Manhattan, New York. He was proud of his work and approached it with diligence, intelligence, and a strong sense of responsibility. His career reflected the same qualities that guided his life outside of work, including discipline, reliability, and a quiet commitment to doing things well. Those who knew him understood that he took pride in his work and in the order and structure he brought to everything he touched.

A Christian, Ken lived his life with faith and humility. He was a man of many interests and simple pleasures, and he found joy in the activities that allowed him to use his hands and his mind. In his younger years, he played golf, and throughout his life he enjoyed tinkering in the garage and building all types of things.  He loved spending time near the water and at the beach, where he could relax and appreciate the world around him. He was also a devoted fan of all New York sports teams, following them with loyalty and enthusiasm. He will always be remembered fondly for his patriotism and the pride that he felt lving in the United States of America!

Above all else, Ken’s grandchildren were the light of his life. He took great pride in them and cherished every moment he spent with Morgan, Madison, Makayla, and Aidan. He made it a point to instill in them the importance of education and often reminded them that “hard work pays off.” His wisdom, encouragement, and belief in their potential will remain with them always. He also took pride in his organizational skills, a trait that reflected his thoughtful nature and his appreciation for order, purpose, and care in all things.

Ken will be remembered as a man of great heart, quiet strength, and enduring devotion. He was loving in the way he cared for his family, gentle in the way he treated others, and wise in the guidance he offered throughout his life. His presence brought comfort, his words carried meaning, and his example left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the love he shared, the family he cherished, and the many lives he touched along the way.
