Joseph Gerard Higgins, 88, of Matawan, New Jersey, fondly known as “Uncle Joe” amongst his family and friends, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Joseph was born on October 5, 1936, in Newark, New Jersey, where he grew up. In 1966, he settled in the Matawan section of Old Bridge, where he has remained for the last 58 years. Before his retirement, Joseph worked as a clerk for Englehardt Metals in Carteret for many years. Most of all, he was a loving uncle to all his nieces and nephews over the years. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Clorinda (Capasso) Higgins. Joseph is survived by his loving nieces and nephews, John W. Higgins and his wife, Maureen, of Ocean, Timothy Higgins and his wife, Riva, of Bayville, James Patrick Higgins and his wife, Constance, of Union Beach, Mary Ann Lietz and her husband, John, of Aberdeen, Kelly Bunk and her husband, Peter, of Hackettstown, James Paul Higgins of Rhode Island and his dear sister in laws Florence and Janet Higgins. Joseph also leaves behind is cherished great nieces and nephew, Shana, Kaitlyn, Brianna, Erin, Jacob, Alyssa and Hannah, his treasured great-great nieces and nephew, Giuliana, Warren, and Arabella, and his dear caregiver and friend, “Jamie” Jacob.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday morning, February 1, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:15 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Chrisian Burial will be offered on Saturday morning, February 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Clement Roman Catholic Church, 172 Freneau Avenue, Matawan, New Jersey 07747.
