Irene P. (Conway) Young

Irene P. Young, 89, of Union Beach, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024. She was born Irene P. Conway on November 9, 1934, to her parents, William Henry and Ursula (Koharski) Conway. Irene grew up in Pittston, Pennsylvania and settled in 1954 in Union Beach, with her beloved husband Augustine “Gus” Young, where they raised their 7 children and remained.

Irene loved playing cards, cheering for her favorite sports teams, and spending time with family. She was affectionately known as the neighborhood “Nana,” extending her kindness, warmth, and generosity to all who knew her. Famous for her french fry cones, inside out grilled cheeses, and silver dollar pancakes, her backyard became the meeting place for the neighborhood kids to play, swim, and enjoy some delicious treats!

Irene was predeceased by her parents, her 4 brothers and 8 sisters, and her beloved husband of 55 years Augustine J. “Gus” Young. Irene is survived by her loving children, Augustine J. Young and his wife Carrie of Union Beach, Mark Young of Wall, David Young and his wife Carol of Fort Meyers, Florida, Diane Young-Ciardi and her husband Benn of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Suzanne Quinn and her husband John of Holmdel, Albert Young of Hazlet, Gerdana Young of Highlands, along with her cherished grandchildren Amber Wattenbarger and her husband David, Ian Young and his wife Alice, Samantha Chin and her husband Wesley, Mitchell Quinn and his wife Gizem, Douglas Quinn, Katie Di Pasquale and her husband Anthony, Lindsay Bruno and her husband Michael, Dylan Quinn and his wife Brianna, Lyle Ciardi, Luke Quinn and his wife Arianna, along with her adored Great Grandchildren Jude Wattenbarger, Kai Quinn, Gabe Wattenbarger, Oliver Chin, Ash Quinn, Vincent Young, Cassiopeia Quinn, Isabel Chin, Dominic Di Pasquale, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Most of all Irene was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday November 8, 2024, 9:45 to 10:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday morning, November 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 727 Highway 36, Union Beach, New Jersey 07735.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 360 Broadway, Keyport, New Jersey 07735. In Lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Wounded Warriors Project, or Holy Family Parish in loving memory of Irene P. Young, would be greatly appreciated.
