David P. Shrum, 59, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick on June 23, 2023. David was born on July 13, 1963 to parents Richard and Irene “Renee” (Herrera) Shrum in Red Bank, New Jersey. He spent his working years as a craftsman, mostly in the mason field and construction, and later in life operated multiple properties as a property and maintenance manager for Premier Development at Stone Bridge in Raritan.
When David wasn’t working, he enjoyed woodworking and building things, always adding his own artistic touch. David was quite the collector as well, from watches, shoes, and clocks, to name a few. He worked a lot, but always made time for family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with the ones he loved. Going to Monmouth Raceway was a hobby David enjoyed, along with fishing, the beach, and always loved having a good time and dancing. Although he is gone from our lives, David will be remembered for the happiness and joy he brought to each life he touched.
David is predeceased by his father Richard T. Shrum. He is survived by his mother Irene “Renee” Shrum, his loving children Ashlee Shrum and her husband Ralph, and David Shrum II and his wife Jordan, his granddaughter Sienna, his sisters Jodi-Ann Shrum and her partner Jeff Borkland and Charisma Majors and her husband Rob, his nephew Robert Majors, his step-grandchildren Adam, Leigh-Anne, and Sara, and many other extended family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 8:45 to 9:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home, 3269 State Highway/Route 35, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 727 Route 36, Union Beach, New Jersey 07735.
