Edward Joseph Brett

Edward Joseph Brett, 90, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 17, 2024.  Edward, fondly known as “Irish Ed”, was born on June 25, 1933, in Kilkenny, Ireland, where he grew up.  In 1957, Edward immigrated to the United States, starting his life in Queens, New York.  After serving in the United States Army, Edward met his beloved wife, Mary.  They were married on July 9, 1966, and began their life and family together in Bronx, New York.  In 1974, they settled in Hazlet, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their family.  Before retirement, Edward worked for New York Telephone Company in Manhattan, New York as a Network Services Manager.  He was also a long-time devoted parishioner of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Union Beach and served as their head usher for many years.  Most of all, Edward was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.  He will be greatly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Margaret (Cody) Brett, his loving son, David, his dear siblings, Thomas, James, Sean, David, Mary “Mamie” Shortis, and Margaret “Peggy” O’Neill, and his granddaughter, Angeline.  Edward is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 57 years, Mary (Hannon) Brett, his loving daughters, Melissa and her fiancé, Darren, of Browns Mills, New Jersey, and Anita of Hazlet, New Jersey, his dear sister, Ann “Nan” Garvin, his cherished grandchildren, Brianna, Liam, Christian, and Gavin, and his niece and nephews, Melanie, Danny, Justin, and Eric, along with many more adoring nieces and nephews and extended family in Ireland.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 4:30 to 8:30 PM and Thursday morning, March 21, 2024, from 8:45 to 9:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday morning, March 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 727 Highway 36, Union Beach, New Jersey 07735.  Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum, 360 Broadway, Keyport, New Jersey 07735.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
