Augustine P. Aversa

Augustine P. Aversa, fondly known as “Gus”, 97, of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, passed away at home on March 24, 2024.  Augustine was born on December 20, 1926, in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he grew up.  After serving with the United States Navy in World War II, Gus moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he met his beloved wife, Agnes.  Gus and Agnes were married on April 19, 1953, and began their life and family together in Brooklyn.  In 1960, they settled in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their family.  Shortly after moving to Cliffwood Beach, Gus became the proprietor of Mike’s Sub Shop in Keyport, New Jersey, where he served his community on the Keyport waterfront for countless years.  Prior to taking over Mike’s Sub Shop, Gus worked at the Market Diner in New York City for many years.  He was also a proud life member of the American Legion Raritan Post #23 in Keyport.  Most of all, Gus was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.  He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alphonso and Theresa (Sorrentino) Aversa and his loving wife Agnes Aversa.   Gus is survived by his loving sons, Paul Aversa and his wife, Colleen, of Matawan, and Augustine Aversa and his wife, Lisa, of Cliffwood Beach, his dear siblings, Joseph P.A. Sorrentino, and Angelina Aversa, and his cherished grandchildren, Danielle Jones and her husband, Michael, Amanda Aversa and her wife, Tammy, Gus Aversa, Marissa Aversa and her wife, Grace, and Riley Aversa, along with his treasured great grandchildren, Sadie, Aiden, and Orlando. 

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  Interment will take place privately at St. Joseph Cemetery in Keyport, New Jersey.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
