Joseph W. Kungel

     Joseph W. Kungel, better known as "Jo Jo", 61, of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, passed away on March 11, 2017 of a sudden heart attack.  He was taken to McLeod Community Hospital in Loris, South Carolina where they were unsuccessful in reviving him.  Joseph was born on April 30, 1955 in Newark, New Jersey, and spent the majority of his childhood growing up in Cliffwood Beach. After marriage, he and his wife, Shelli, began their life together and raised their family in Cliffwood, NJ, and later moving to Cliffwood Beach where he was currently residing.  Throughout his life, Jo Jo worked as a truck driver for various companies in New Jersey, and he retired a few years after starting his own Trucking Company, JS & Sons Trucking.  

     Besides driving trucks, one of Jo Jo's favorite pasttimes was riding his motorcycle.  He also adored spending time with his cherished grandchildren, and whenever he would come to visit them, he would always make sure to bring along some of their favorite candy and snacks.  He babysat without hesitation and would attend all of their sporting events.  Jo Jo was very well known throughout Cliffwood Beach and the surrounding communities having lived there his entire life. He was loved by everyone he met and everyone who knew him.

     He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph M. and Grace (Toldt) Kungel, and his sister, Joann Foley.  Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Shelli (Johnson) Kungel, his loving sons, Joseph M. Kungel and his fiancé, Mariola, of Union Beach, and  Christopher Kungel of Cliffwood Beach, along with his cherished grandchildren Ava, Joseph M. Jr, and Layla Kungel. He is also survived by his brother and best friend through life, Clint Leming of Washington, New Jersey, his dear sister, Teresa “Tiny” Ryan of Cliffwood Beach,  his adoring mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elsie and Selmer Johnson of Cliffwood Beach, his brothers-in-law, Kevin and Eric, his sister-in-law, Denise, and many nieces and nephews.  He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

     Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday evening, March 17, 2017 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  In respect of Jo Jo’s wishes, he will be privately cremated.  Jo Jo's family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Repast on Saturday afternoon, March 18, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the VFW Post #4745, 699 Cliffwood Avenue, Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey 07735.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
