Joseph Frank Gentile, 90, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away at home on Friday, February 16, 2018. Joseph was born on January 23,1928 in Mola Di Bari, Italy where he grew up. He moved to Pensacola Florida in 1947 before settling in Brooklyn, New York. In 1997, he moved to Toms River, New Jersey.
He was predeceased by his parents, Domenico and Marietta (Saponaro) Gentile and his beloved wife, Santa Gentile. Joseph was a machinist for Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Joseph is survived by his devoted children, Maria Portagallo and her husband Joseph of Staten Island, New York, Dominick Gentile and his wife Diane of Staten Island, New York, Frank Gentile and his wife Daneen of Staten Island, New York, Joseph Gentile, Jr. and his wife Rosa of Manalapan, New Jersey, his cherished grandchildren, Gina De Rosa and her husband Mark, Samantha Monteleone and her husband Vincent, Joseph Gentile, III, Brianna Gentile, Michael Gentile, Nicholas Gentile, Sabrina Gentile, Jessica Pasynkov and her husband Alex, Corinne Plaha and her husband Sam, Jaimee Rizzo and her wife Lisa, and Deanna Fedele. Joseph is also survived by his adored great grandchildren Presley DeRosa, Jack DeRosa and Alexander Pasynkov. Joseph will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM only at D’Elia Funeral Home, Route 70 and Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, New Jersey 08701 and Monday, February 19, 2018 from 2:00 PM 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Matthew’s Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island, New York, 10314. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday morning, February 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen’s R.C. Church, 125 Summit Street, Brooklyn, New York, 11231. Interment to follow on at St. John’s Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Avenue, Middle Village Queens, New York 11379.
