Helen (Mills) Bruff

    Helen Bruff, 78, of Matawan, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey.  She was born Helen Mills on September 24, 1938 in Bronx, New York, where she grew up.  In 1956 as a young woman, Helen moved to Queens, New York, before settling in Matawan, New Jersey in 1961 to raise her family.  While living in Matawan, Helen worked for State Farm Insurance Agency for many years.  Helen had a great sense of humor and had an extremely colorful personality.  She loved Irish music and one of her favorite past-times was gardening and taking care of all of her beautiful flowers, but most of all, Helen's family was her "everything".  To everyone, Helen was known as, "Ma", or "Big H",  and her entire family called her, "The Queen Mum".  They also would often joke that Helen was the "Mayor of Matawan."  Being the colorful person that she was, Helen's family asks that you please wear something colorful to her funeral services and do not wear black, in commemoration of her bright sense of humor and personality.

    She was predeceased by her parents, Martin and Helen Mills, and her brother, Harry Mills.  Helen is survived by her loving children, Luann Nicholas and her husband, Paul, of Freehold, New Jersey, Barbara Cooley of Manalapan, New Jersey, Margaret Thuring and her husband, Robert, of Spotswood, New Jersey, Sean P. Bruff and his wife, Nancy, of Howell, New Jersey, and Helen Bumbico and her husband, Nick, of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, her dear siblings, James Mills and his wife, Gerry, and Martin J. Mills and his wife, Kathy.  Helen is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marie Mills, her cherished grandchildren, Michael Bennett and his wife, Stefanie, Kaitlyn Palumbo and her husband, Marc, Ryan Bennett, Patrick Bennett and his wife, Corrine, Daniel P. Cooley and his wife, Becky, Robert J. Thuring and his wife, Jenn, Shannon L. Thuring, Grace M. Cooley, Caylee J. Bruff, Brian D. Thuring, Savannah R. Bruff, Erin M. Thuring, Delanie Helen Bruff, Averri S. Bruff, Nicholas M. Bumbico, Gavin M. Bruff, and Alyssa Helen Bumbico, along with her adored great grandchildren, Jack Bennett, Finn Bennett, Owen Bennett, and Natalie Palumbo.  Helen will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

    Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Saturday morning, August 19, 2017 from 8:30 to 9:15 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday morning, August 19, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Clement Roman Catholic Church, 172 Freneau Avenue, Matawan, New Jersey 07747.  In respect of Helen's wishes, she will be privately cremated.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
