Angelo E. Garaffa, 89, of Freehold, New Jersey passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday morning, October 24, 2016 at his home. Angelo was born on January 5, 1927 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where he also grew up. On November 26, 1955, he married the love of his life, Florence M. (Straniero) Garaffa. Following their marriage, Angelo and Florence moved to Hazlet, New Jersey to raise their family. In 2013, they settled in Freehold, New Jersey. Before retiring, Angelo worked as a self-employed building contractor. He was also a proud United States Army veteran, having served during World War II.
He was predeceased by his son, Richard Garaffa, his parents, Samuel and Eleanor (Matteucci) Garaffa, and his siblings, Rosemarie Mandy, John Garaffa, Faust Garaffa, and Bill Garaffa. Angelo is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Florence M. Garaffa, his loving children, Angela Dorsi and her husband, Richard, of Hazlet, New Jersey, Denise Zolnowski and her husband, Bruce, of Freehold, New Jersey, his dear siblings, Gail Dougherty, Alma Ballschneider, Colette DeFillippo, Arlene Bellotti and her husband, Chuck, Jayne Blamer-Sims, Joseph Garaffa, Fred Garaffa and his wife, Sandy, along with his cherished grandchildren, Michael Zolnowski, Anthony Zolnowski, Gabriella Dorsi, and Gianna Dorsi. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and Thursday morning, October 27, 2016 from 8:30 to 9:15 AM, at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3269 State Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday morning, October 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM, at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733.
