William “Bill” H. Costello, 89, of Brandywine @ The Gables in Brick, New Jersey, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on April 21, 2026. Born on June 15, 1936, in Red Bank, New Jersey, Bill lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, hard work, and a warm sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.
Bill grew up in Matawan, New Jersey, where he met the love of his life, Carole (Lukasiewicz) Costello, while they were in high school. Their friendship blossomed into a lifelong marriage built on love, loyalty, and shared memories. Together, they made their home in Matawan for many years before moving to Toms River in 1998. It was in 2025 that Bill later moved to Brandywine in Brick, New Jersey. Through every chapter of life, Bill remained a steady and caring presence, devoted to the people he loved most.
A proud veteran, Bill served his country honorably in the United States Army National Guard. He carried that sense of duty and integrity throughout his life. After his military service, he retired from furniture sales following many dedicated years with Levitz Furniture in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He was respected for his work ethic, his professionalism, and the kindness he showed to those around him. Bill approached life with a practical spirit and a generous heart, and he left a lasting impression on coworkers, friends, and customers alike.
Outside of work, Bill had a vast interest in finance, and he enjoyed following the stock market and reading magazines about financial matters. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan, especially when it came to football, and he faithfully followed the Giants and the Jets. Golf was another favorite pastime, and he found great enjoyment in time spent on the course. He also loved Atlantic City, particularly Borgata, Long Beach Island, and the joy of dancing. Bill had a fascination with both older and newer luxury cars, and he appreciated the finer things in life, including a good wine and a glass of Johnny Walker Black. His interests reflected a man who enjoyed life’s pleasures and took genuine delight in the world around him.
Bill will be remembered most for the qualities that defined him as a person. He was funny, selfless, and generous, and he brought warmth and light to the lives of others. His sense of humor could brighten any room, and his selfless nature was evident in the way he cared for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Elizabeth (Curley) Costello, his beloved wife, Carole (Lukasiewicz) Costello, and his caring siblings, Thomas Costello, Betty Williams, Patty Ann Costello, and Eileen Costello. He is survived by his loving and caring children, Todd Costello and his wife Terri, and Melissa Costello; his dear siblings, James Costello, Joseph Costello, Joyce Montesano, and Marjorie Heuser; and his cherished granddaughters, Colette Costello and Alanna Costello. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Bill’s life was one of love, service, and enduring devotion. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and generosity that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain a source of comfort and gratitude to his family and friends.
In honor of William’s wishes, he will be privately cremated and later interred alongside his wife, Carole at Shorelands Memorial Garden, Hazlet, New Jersey. Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., was entrusted with his arrangements. For more information or to send the family condolences, please visit www.shorepointfh.com
