Walter J. Mazzarella, 79, of Holmdel, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.
Born on July 23, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, he grew up there before relocating to Long Island, New York, where he raised his family. About 30 years ago, he settled in Holmdel, New Jersey, with his beloved wife, Elizabeth, and their family.
Before his retirement, Walter was the owner of the construction company W.J.M. Innovations. He took great pride in his work and in the business he built through years of commitment and determination. He was also a proud United States Army veteran, having served our country during the Vietnam War. His service reflected the same strength, loyalty, and sense of duty that guided him in every part of his life. Prior to the start of his career, Walter was a proud graduate of Adelphi University, where he earned his master’s degree.
Walter will be remembered as a funny and loving man whose sense of humor brought joy to those around him. He was a jokester by nature and had a gift for making others smile. He was an avid fisherman who found peace and enjoyment near the water, and he also loved to cook. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time at the gun range, and after retirement, he often relaxed by watching television and movies. Most of all, Walter was a true family man who adored his loved ones and especially cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Specce) Mazzarella; his loving children, Alexandria “Sandi” Seringer and her husband Bernard, Nicholas Mazzarella, Diana Trama, and Samantha D’Agosta and her husband Peter; his dear siblings, Angie Zizzo, Michael Mazzarella, and Michael Cotugno; and his cherished grandchildren, Alaina, Sophia, Adriana, Juliana, Max, Alexis, Chloe, Nicholas, Mason, Natalie, and Nicholas. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Mable (Ipock) Cotugno; his brothers, Angelo Mazzarella and Cory Cotugno; and his son-in-law, Michael Trama.
Walter will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
Arrangements were entrusted to Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. In respect of Walter’s wishes, he will be privately cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and time to be announced.
