Thomas Joseph Hilger,58, known to many as Tom and affectionately as “Moose,” passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family, on Friday, March 27, 2026, at home in Hazlet, New Jersey. Tom was born on August 19,1967, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He lived a life marked by devotion, hard work, humor, and love for the people who were fortunate enough to know him.
Tom was the son of the late Henry and Maureen (Daly) and brother of the late Edward Hilger. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a caring brother, and a cherished family member whose presence brought warmth and steadiness to those around him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Jeannine Hilger, his loving son, Jake Thomas Hilger, his caring brother, William Hilger, and his dear mother-in-law, Gertrude Marrale. His family was the center of his world, and he gave them his loyalty, his strength, and his unmistakable sense of humor throughout his life. Tom will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.
Tom moved from Jersey City to Hazlet, New Jersey, with his wife, Jeannine, in 1996, and they made their home there together for the rest of his life. The life they built in Hazlet was one of commitment, shared memories, and enduring partnership. Through the years, Tom remained a constant source of support and love to his family and took great pride in the life he created with them.
A dedicated electrician, Tom worked for 20 years with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 102 in Parsippany, New Jersey. He was respected for his skill, reliability, and strong work ethic. Tom approached his trade with pride and care, and he was the kind of man others could count on to get the job done right. His hands were capable, his mind was practical, and his presence on the job reflected the qualities that defined him in all areas of life. He was truly handy in every sense of the word, and he used that gift to help others and to provide for the people he loved.
One of Tom’s simple pleasures was washing his car each week while listening to his favorite music and enjoying a beer. It was a routine that reflected his appreciation for the little things in life and the comfort he found in familiar moments. He could also be found spending time at the gun range. Those who knew him best will remember not only his work and devotion, but also the way he embraced life’s everyday joys with contentment and style.
Tom’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends, but his memory will remain a lasting source of comfort and strength. He will be remembered for his devotion to his loved ones, his dedication to his work, his humor, and the genuine kindness he carried with him throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he built, and the many lives he touched along the way.
In respect of Tom’s wishes, he will be privately cremated. His funeral arrangements were entrusted to Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.
