Thomas J. Fullerton Jr., age 89, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Thomas passed away at his daughter, Ellen’s house in Hazlet on April 16, 2026. Born on December 23, 1936, in Teaneck, New Jersey, he lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to his family, a strong work ethic, and a warm spirit that touched all who knew him.. Thomas grew up in Teaneck and later met the love of his life, Virginia, in Irvington, New Jersey. The two built a life together rooted in love and loyalty. After their marriage, they remained in Irvington for a time before moving to the Bayshore area, where they raised their family and created many cherished memories. In 2003, Thomas moved to Toms River, where he continued to make his home for the remainder of his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas J. and Louise A. (Schuck) Fullerton, his beloved wife, Virginia, his dear son, John Fullerton, his son-in-law Steven Florin and his siblings, Joseph and MaryLou. These losses were deeply felt, yet Thomas carried their memory with him throughout his life with quiet strength and enduring love. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Ellen Florin, his daughter in law, Jennifer Fullerton, his cherished grandchildren, Melissa Fullerton, Cheryl Fullerton-O’Brien and her husband Mike, Steven Florin and his wife Amy and Michael Fullerton as well as his adoring great grandchildren, Kristina, Madison and Mia.
He was a retired mechanic who took great pride in his work. He owned his own gas station for several years, where his skill, reliability, and dedication earned the respect of those he served. He later went to work for the State of New Jersey in the Marlboro area, continuing a career defined by hard work and responsibility. His professional life reflected the same steady character that guided him in all things.
After retiring, Thomas found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed playing billiards and was an avid gardener who took great pride in growing tomatoes. He especially treasured the time he spent with his family, and those moments remained among the most important in his life. He will be lovingly remembered for the wonderful stories and fun facts he shared, which brought laughter, interest, and warmth to family gatherings and conversations.
Thomas was a loving, kind, and interesting man whose presence left a lasting impression on those around him. He had a way of making others feel welcome and valued, and his thoughtful nature and engaging personality made him a joy to be with. His family and friends will remember him not only for what he did, but for who he was, a man of character, humor, and heart. He will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.
In respect of Thomas’s wishes, he will be privately cremated.
