Susan P Prokopiak

Susan P. Prokopiak, age 62, of Carteret, New Jersey, passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Arnold Walter Nursing and Rehabilitation in Holmdel, New Jersey.

Born on February 28, 1964, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Susan was the daughter of the late Henry and Patricia (Torocco) Burkizer. She grew up in Linden, New Jersey, where she spent her early years surrounded by family and the values that would guide her throughout her life. After meeting the love of her life, Patrick J. Prokopiak, the two were married and later made their home in Carteret, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their family and build a life filled with love, devotion, and lasting memories.

Susan was a loving, generous, and kind woman whose presence brought warmth and comfort to those around her. She retired after many dedicated years as a crossing guard for Carteret Township, a role she carried out with care, responsibility, and a genuine concern for the safety of the children and families in her community. Her steady kindness and friendly spirit made her a familiar and beloved face to many in Carteret.

In addition to her work, Susan found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She enjoyed working on arts and crafts and had a special love for singing. Her creative spirit and cheerful nature were evident in all that she did. Even after her son Brandon graduated from high school, Susan continued to give her time and energy by volunteering for many years as a “band mom” at Carteret High School, Carteret, New Jersey. Her support, encouragement, and dedication were deeply appreciated, and she was loved by all who knew her.

Above all else, Susan cherished her family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend who treasured every moment spent with those she loved. Her greatest happiness came from being with her family, and she gave them her heart fully and unconditionally. Her love, kindness, and selflessness will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Susan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Patrick J. Prokopiak, as well as her parents, Henry and Patricia (Torocco) Burkizer. She is survived by her loving sons, Brandon Prokopiak and his boyfriend, Hunter, and Patrick Prokopiak and his girlfriend, Melissa, as well as her caring sisters, Sherilyn Burkizer-Dworak and Debra Petrusky. Her family will forever remember her for her gentle spirit, her unwavering love, and the many ways she made life brighter for those around her.

She will be greatly missed, always loved, and never forgotten.
