Sophie Rose (Lew) Macchia

Sophie Rose Macchia, 80, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, New Jersey.  She was born Sophie Rose Lew on January 28, 1941 in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she grew up.  In 1967, she settled in Hazlet, New Jersey, where she remained to raise her family.  Sophie’s home was full of love, laughs, and faith. Everyone who entered felt welcomed by her kind soul. Sophie was a model of faith and truly an angel in the flesh. She showed what it meant to open one’s heart to Jesus. Sophie never hesitated to help anyone she met, whether that be by cooking for them, opening her home for them, or praying for them.  Sophie will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Helen (Myhowycz) Lew, and her husband, George A. Macchia.  Sophie is survived by her loving sons, George Macchia and his wife, Susan, of Holmdel, Michael John Macchia and his wife, Jennifer, of Middletown, Anthony Macchia of Toms River, James Macchia and his wife, Susan, of Belford, and Peter Macchia and his wife, Heather, of Aberdeen, and her dear sister, Patricia Musto.  Sophie also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Brittany, Michael, Megan, Caitlyn, Lindsey, Amanda, Sophia, Fiona, Samantha and Georgina. 

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Wednesday morning, April 28, 2021 from 8:45 to 9:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday morning, April 28, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733.  Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, 350 E.
