Shirley Sokolowski, 79, of Freehold, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Jun 23, 2024. She was born Shirley Hornchak on May 24, 1945, in Newark, New Jersey, where she grew up. Shirley raised her family in Bayonne, where she remained until moving to Freehold with her husband, John, seven years ago. Before her retirement, Shirley worked as a store manager for Sunoco. Shirley loved to cook, and always made sure to keep a clean house. She enjoyed dancing, going camping in her spare time, and adored animals. Most of all, Shirley was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She will be greatly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Marie Elsie (Worden) Hornchak, her son, Anthony Chizmarik, her brothers, John and William Hornchak, and her grandson, Michael Arnold. Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, John Sokolowski, her loving daughter, Michele Arnold of Bayonne, her dear siblings, Rose Minni, George Hornchak, Dorothy Torre, and Sophie Klett, her cherished grandchildren, Nicole and Desiree, and her treasured great grandchildren, Alana and Connor, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A prayer service will be offered at the funeral home at approximately 6:15 pm. In respect of Shirley’s wishes, she will be privately cremated.
