Robert G Baird

Robert G Baird (Bobby), 87, of Union Beach, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 8, 2025. He was born on January 7, 1938, in Elizabeth, New Jersey and lived in Union during his early childhood. His family moved to Union Beach where he remained for the rest of his life.

Bobby attended Keyport High School and then served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired after over 40 years at Saker–Wakefern (Shop-Rite) where he displayed a strong work ethic, commitment and dedication to his work every day.

He was a proud member of Union Hose Fire Company in Union Beach for 69 years where he remained active until his death. During his tenure, he held every rank and office, including full department Chief in 1977. He was a member of the Bayshore Active Chiefs Association for 50+years. Bobby was also a life member of Raritan Hose Company, No. 2, in Keyport, NJ.

In 2010, Bobby was awarded the Union Beach Citizen of the Year. It was well known by all, that “Poppa Bear” would always be the first one in line at any buffet.

He was predeceased by his beloved and devoted wife of 52 years Catherine in 2017. Bobby is survived by his children, Robert G Baird Jr and his wife Marge, Barbara Rice and her husband Joe, John Baird and his wife Michelle. “G-Pa” is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Robert G. Baird III and his wife Danielle, Megan Parker and her husband Chris, Ryan Baird, Joseph Rice, Kyle Baird and his cherished great-grandchildren Sophia Catherine Baird, Isabella James Baird and Ashton Ray Parker.

He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey   07730. The Union Beach Fire Department will be doing a service during the visitation on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 7:00 PM.
