Richard "Butch" L Simmons

Richard “Butch” L. Simmons, who was born on April 8, 1944, in Red Bank, New Jersey, passed away on August 3, 2026, at Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey.

Butch lived a life marked by devotion to his family, hard work, and a warm sense of humor that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He was loving, funny, and thoughtful, and he carried those qualities with him throughout his life. He grew up in Union Beach, New Jersey, and later raised his family in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey. In 2004, he and his beloved wife, Madeline, made their home in Whiting, New Jersey, where they remained and built many cherished memories together.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Virgil and Mildred “Millie” (Jansen) Simmons and his sister, Cookie Flores. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Madeline (Wisman) Simmons, his caring children, Nancy Simmons and Steven Simmons and his wife Susan. He is also survived by his brother Michael Simmons and his wife Marie, along with many cherished nieces and nephews who will remember him with love and gratitude.

Butch was a dedicated retired propane service technician who worked for many years with Amerigas in New Jersey. He took pride in his work and was known as someone who could be counted on to do the job well and to help others whenever he could. His strong work ethic and dependable nature were admired by those who worked alongside him and by those he served over the years. He found satisfaction in being useful, and he gave of himself freely and without hesitation.

Outside of work, Butch was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors and the peace it brought him. He appreciated simple pleasures and valued the time spent doing the things he loved. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and his ability to make people laugh, often brightening a room with his humor and easygoing manner. His family and friends will remember not only his laughter, but also the kindness and sincerity behind it.

Those who knew Butch will remember a man who was deeply devoted to his family and who lived with honesty, strength, and heart. He was the kind of person who made others feel welcome, who offered help without being asked, and who left people better for having known him. His presence will be missed in countless ways, but his memory will remain a source of comfort and love to all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
