Richard G. Nelson Sr., 75, of Keyport, New Jersey, passed away at his home on September 29, 2026. He was born on August 6, 1951, in Staten Island, New York, and grew up in Edison, New Jersey, where he spent his early years surrounded by his large family. About 40 years ago, he made his home in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, with his beloved wife, Nancy, where he became a familiar and respected presence in his community.
Before his retirement, Richard worked for many years as a machinist, most recently with Ferro Corporation. He was proud of his work and approached it with dedication and reliability. He understood the value of honest labor and took pride in a job well done.
Richard especially loved spending time fishing and hunting with his family and friends. These moments brought him great joy and created memories that will be treasured by his family forever. He also found friendship and fellowship as a guest of VFW Post #4745, where he was warmly welcomed and formed many lasting bonds over the years. The camaraderie he shared there was an important part of his life, and he valued the companionship and sense of belonging he found among his fellow members.
He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Rose Nelson, as well as his brothers, Raymond and Bruce Nelson, and sister-in-law, Lorraine Nelson. Their memory remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy M. Nelson; his loving son, Richard G. Nelson Jr., and his wife, Laura; his siblings, Arlene Mingle and her husband, William, Kenneth Nelson, and Robert Nelson and his wife, Linda; his cherished grandchildren, Madison and Dalton Nelson; his step-nephew, Brendan Kern; and his step-grandson, Brian Zimmer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Richard’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and he will be deeply missed.
Arrangements were entrusted to Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. In respect of Richard’s wishes, he will be privately cremated. For information or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
