Richard J. Garda, 88, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his daughter’s home in Northampton, Pennsylvania on May 31, 2025. Richard was born on January 24, 1937, in Manhattan, New York, and grew up in Weehawken, New Jersey. In 1959, he settled in Hazlet to raise his family, where he remained. Before his retirement, Richard worked as an operations manager for Puerto Rico Marine Management in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was also a proud United States Army Veteran. Most of all, Richard was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen E. Garda, his parents, John and Helen (Schick) Garda, and his siblings, Howard Garda and Marion Dessow. Richard is survived by his loving children, Lorraine J. Garda-Strouse and her husband, Glenn, of Northampton, Pennsylvania, Beth Ann Norman and her husband, John, of Naperville, Illinois, Patty Fey and her husband, Jerry, of Naperville, Illinois, Steven G. Hansen and his wife Linda of Tabernacle, New Jersey, Eric G. Hansen and his wife, Pattyann, of Jackson, and Lisa M. Cancel and her husband, Jorge, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, along with 20 cherished grandchildren, and 11 treasured great grandchildren.
In respect of Richard’s wishes, he will be privately cremated. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07730. A memorial visitation will be held, following the Mass, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. Richard and his wife Helen’s cremated remains will be laid to rest at 2:30 PM at St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum, 360 Broadway, Keyport, New Jersey 07735.
