Raymond Mulhern Obituary

Raymond Edward Mulhern, known affectionately to family and friends as Ray, passed away on July 15, 2026, at Bayside Manor in Keansburg, New Jersey, at the age of 62.

Born on August 20, 1963, in New York, New York, Ray began his life in the Bronx before moving with his family to Keansburg, New Jersey, at the age of two. He made Keansburg his home for most of his life and became a familiar and beloved presence in the community. Ray was a proud graduate of St. John’s University in New York, an accomplishment that reflected his determination and the value he placed on education.  Over the last several years, Ray worked as a sales associate at Dick’s Sporting Good in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

Ray lived a life marked by spirit, warmth, and devotion to the people he loved. He was known for his friendly nature, his loving heart, and a personality that was larger than life. Those who knew him will remember that he was truly one of a kind. He had a way of making people feel welcome, and his presence brought energy and laughter wherever he went. His love for life was evident in the way he carried himself and in the deep loyalty he showed to his family and friends.

While living in Keansburg, Ray devoted many years to coaching basketball for St. Ann’s Catholic School. He took great pride in working with young athletes and sharing his enthusiasm for the game.  Ray was also a devoted Mets fan, and he enjoyed following his team through every season. He also loved spending time at the beach in his spare time.

Above all else, Ray’s children were the center of his world. He adored his son and daughter and would do anything to make them happy. His love for them was constant, unconditional, and deeply felt. The bond he shared with them was one of the greatest joys of his life, and he took immense pride in being their father. His devotion to his family extended to every part of his life, and those closest to him knew that his heart belonged first and foremost to the people he loved.

Ray is survived by his loving children, Raymond John Mulhern and his wife, Jessica, of Hazlet, and Samantha Mulhern and her fiancé Joseph Bernhard of Hoboken, New Jersey. He is also survived by his dear sister, Patricia O'Connor and her husband William; his cherished nephews, Sean O'Connor and his wife Erin, and Kevin O'Connor; his treasured great nephew, Nolan O'Connor; and the mother of his children, Christine MacDonald and her husband, Robert, and their son, Hunter. He will also be fondly remembered by many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched over the years.

He was predeceased by his adoring parents, Raymond and Catherine (Walker) Mulhern, and by his cherished nephew, Timothy O'Connor. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Ray will be remembered for his spirited nature, his friendliness, and the love he gave so freely to others. His family and friends will forever hold close the memories of his laughter, his loyalty, and the unmistakable presence he brought into every room. Though he is no longer with them, the impact of his life will continue to be felt in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Ray’s family would like to give a special thank you to the Cappadona Family and all the staff at Bayside Manor for the loving care they provided to Ray in his final days.  Their quality care and kindness will always be deeply appreciated.
