Phyllis M Illions

Phyllis M. Illions, 71, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family Monday, November 13, 2023.  She was born Phyllis M. LaMonica on August 2, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up and met her beloved husband, Edward. On December 4, 1977, Phyllis and Edward were married and began their life and family together in Brooklyn.  In 1985, they settled in Hazlet, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their family.

While living in Brooklyn, Phyllis began her teaching career and her passion for her students blossomed.  Once she relocated to Hazlet, she also taught in the Keansburg school system and retired as a School Counselor for Sayreville School District after 24 years of dedicated service. Phyllis made a lasting difference in the lives of countless students over the years.  Even outside of her teaching career, Phyllis always loved helping others.  She had a tremendous amount of strength and determination, and her kindness always shone through everything she did.  Phyllis lived her life with a grateful heart.  Above all else, Phyllis adored her family.  Her two grandchildren, Gila and Michael, were the light of her life and helped keep her going while she was battling illness over the last few years.  Phyllis will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

She was predeceased by her parents, Dominick and Violet (Pulice) LaMonica.  Phyllis is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 45 years, Edward H. Illions, her loving children, Greg Illions of Old Bridge, and Lisa Forlenzo and her husband, Michael, of Hazlet, her adoring sister, Jane LaMonica of Staten Island, New York, and her cherished grandchildren, Gila and Michael Forlenzo.  Phyllis is also survived by her treasured stepchildren, Michael Illions and his wife, Kim, of Woodbridge, and Donna Pizzulli and her husband, Michael, of Old Bridge, and five dear step-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey  07730 .  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday morning, November 18, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733.  In respect of her family’s wishes, Phyllis will be privately cremated and her remains will be laid to rest at Shoreland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hazlet, New Jersey.  In lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Phyllis to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated.  To donate, please visit, www.stjude.org.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
