Peter Mallen

Peter Joseph Mallen, 63, of Union Beach, New Jersey, passed away at home on July 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Peter was the son of the late Vincent Joseph and Phyllis (McCarthy) Mallen, born on December 11, 1962, in New York, New York. He moved with his family as a child to Matawan, New Jersey, in 1965, where he grew up and formed the foundation of the life he would build with strength, humor, and devotion. In 2005, he relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, and on August 23, 2008, he and his beloved wife, Bonnie Jean Hubner-Mallen, were married and began their married life together there. In 2012, they returned to New Jersey and settled in Union Beach, where they raised their loving son, Donovan Patrick Vincent Mallen, and created a warm and welcoming home together.

For many years, Peter was a franchise owner of a 7-Eleven store in Cliffwood, New Jersey, where he was known for his steady work ethic, his friendly nature, and the respect he earned from those who knew him. He approached life with a sense of humor that made him memorable to everyone around him. Those who knew Peter best will remember him as funny, intelligent, and unique in his nature; qualities that made conversations with him engaging and his presence truly special.

Peter had a deep love of travel.  Before he and Bonnie were married, they spent many years exploring different parts of the world together. These experiences became treasured memories that reflected their shared curiosity and appreciation for life’s adventures. He was also a devoted music lover who enjoyed attending concerts and live music events, especially performances by Cheap Trick, which he saw live more than 60 times. Music brought him joy throughout his life, and he found great happiness in the energy and excitement of live performances.

He was equally passionate about sports and remained a loyal fan of the Mets, Knicks, and Steelers. Peter attended more than 100 Mets games and also attended countless Knicks and Steelers games over the years. When he was not in the stands cheering in person, he could be found at home watching the games on television, following every play with enthusiasm and devotion.

Above all else, Peter’s son, Donovan, was the light of his life.  He adored spending time with him and was immeasurably proud of all his accomplishments and the young man he had become.  Being his father was his life’s greatest joy and blessing.

Peter was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring brother, and a loyal friend. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Bonnie Jean Hubner-Mallen; his loving son, Donovan Patrick Vincent Mallen; his dear sister, Judy Bryan, and her husband, Joseph; his treasured sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Hubner-Turner and her fiancé, Glenn Kofod, Christine Hubner, Jacqueline Hubner-Bryce and her husband, Steve, Kathleen Hubner Molino, and Nick Molino; and his nephews and nieces, Kevin Bryan, who was also his godson, Michael, Madisynn, Gabriella, Mia, Stevie, and Adrianna. He also leaves behind his close friends, Neil Schuman, Neil Whartman, Jack Triola, Lou Vito,  DJ Bob and Butch Monaco, as well as his four-legged friend – his cat, Lola. He was predeceased by his parents, Vincent Joseph and Phyllis (McCarthy) Mallen.

Peter will be remembered for the love he gave so freely, the laughter he shared so generously, and the lasting impression he made on his family and friends. His life was one of devotion, companionship, and simple joys that became lasting treasures for those who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain a source of comfort and strength to all who loved him.
