Paul A. Dello Stritto, 81, of Hazlet, New Jersey, entered eternal rest in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on April 15, 2026, after fighting a long, hard battle with Parkinson’s disease over the last several years.
Paul was born on November 23, 1944, in Hoboken, New Jersey. He met his beloved wife, Joyce, on a blind date, beginning a lifelong partnership that would become the foundation of their family. They were married on April 20, 1968 and resided in Hoboken. In 1976, they built a home in Hazlet, where they remained to raise their family and create a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Paul retired from New Jersey Transit Rail as General Foreman of the Mechanical Department after 40 years of dedicated service. Over the course of his career, he rose through the ranks through hard work, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility. Paul loved his career, his coworkers, and his card games on his train ride home from work. Anytime his grandchildren hear a train whistle, they refer to it as “Poppy’s train.”
Paul was also a proud United States Army Veteran, having served our country during the Vietnam War era.
Outside of work, Paul lived a life centered on family and altruism. Paul was a devoted coach for his children’s sports teams and even organized The Hazlet Boxing Club in the 80’s to keep kids off the streets and provide them with a hobby.
He adored his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Poppy,” and his favorite ways to spend his time with them was playing board games or watching them play sports. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in each of them. His children described him as the best father in the entire world. Many of his children’s childhood friends appreciated his welcoming nature and felt like part of the family.
Paul was extremely friendly and spoke to everyone he met, earning him the nickname “the mayor.” He had an ever-growing list of people to bless if he won the lottery. Scratch offs and lottery tickets were synonymous with him.
Paul was an avid Mets and Giants fan. He loved playing cards with his siblings, being a member of his bowling team, and playing golf. He loved to bust chops and tell jokes. Those who knew him will remember his loving nature, his friendly spirit, and the selfless way he cared for others. He had such a positive energy with a smile that lit up a room. Even in his most challenging years, the nurses who lovingly cared for him fell in love with his personality, referring to him as Pauly D. He thrived on making others smile and helping those in need. The answer was always yes to anyone who ever asked him for help. Paul will always be remembered as the ultimate family man.
Paul is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 57 years, Joyce (Von Bernewitz) Dello Stritto, his loving children, Paul Dello Stritto Jr. and his wife Angela, Jeannine Limbach and her husband Robert, Dana Bellantoni and her husband Michael, and Jamie McInerney and her husband Dennis, and his cherished grandchildren, Alexa Limbach, Jessica Limbach, Michael Bellantoni, Macy Bellantoni, Cole Bellantoni, Madison McInerney, Dylan McInerney, and Edwin Terry and his wife Mara. He also leaves behind his dear siblings Ann Meyer, and Edward Dello Stritto and his wife Emma, along with his life-long childhood best friend, Eugene Rear.
He was the son of the late Andrew and Louise (Cox) Dello Stritto. He was also predeceased by his siblings Neil Dello Stritto, Andrew Dello Stritto, and MaryLu Youngclaus and his granddaughter, Blayke Terry.
Paul will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His presence brought comfort and joy to those around him, and his legacy will live on in the family he loved so deeply. Though he will be greatly missed, the memory of his kindness, his humor, and his unwavering devotion to his loved ones will remain a lasting source of strength and comfort for all who were blessed to know him.
