Patricia I Dougherty, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. She was born on September 1, 1946, in Jersey City, Patricia met William Patrick Dougherty, they married and remained in Jersey City. A while after William’s passing, Patricia moved to Hazlet to be closer to family. Patricia's life was a testament to the power of generosity and the enduring strength of family bonds.
She was predeceased by her caring parents, Joseph John and Theresa Ann (Kowal) Poggioli, her beloved husband, William Patrick Dougherty, her wonderful daughter, Lisa Dougherty, and her brothers, Jay Poggioli and Bruce Brown, Patricia's legacy is carried on by her loving children, William Dougherty and Shaun Dougherty both of Union City, Kim Marie Peduto and her husband Michael of Hazlet, Nicole Bulatowicz and her husband John of Keansburg, Rita Fitzgerald of Toms River and Beverly Decker of Whiting, her siblings, Allen Brown and his wife Robin of Virginia, and Sheila Clarke of Connecticut. Patricia is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Ashley Dougherty, Felix Urrutia and his wife Rachel, Deven Goldbecker, Joseph Vargas, Britney Vargas, and Angela Marie Peduto, and her adored great-grandchildren, Caleb, Isabella, Ariella, Marcelline, Valentina, Davian, and Sylis. Memories of Patricia will not be forgotten by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and the extended family who loved her dearly. She was a devoted, daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.
Patricia's professional life was marked by her unwavering dedication as a cashier, at Sparkle Cleaners in Jersey City, where she retired after many years of faithful service. Her colleagues and customers alike will remember her warm smile and the genuine care she brought to her work every day.
A devout Christian, Patricia lived her faith through her actions, always putting others before herself. Her love for writing poems and music was only surpassed by the joy she found in sharing them with her family. Her written songs and verses will not be forgotten. Known affectionately as the "neighborhood mom," Patricia's home was a haven where all were welcome, and no one was ever turned away. Her big heart and her willingness to give of herself made her a cherished figure in her community. Patricia's loving, kind, and generous nature was the cornerstone upon which many relied, and her absence will leave an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Patricia I Dougherty, we celebrate a life rich in love and selflessness. May her memory live on to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Let us not forget the countless lives she touched with her extraordinary heart and the beautiful family she nurtured with such care. Rest in peace, dear Patricia.
In respect of Patricia’s wishes, she will be privately cremated. Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial visitation on Sunday, November 16th, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.
