Michael S. Mazzaro, 76, of Hazlet, formerly of Staten Island, New York passed away at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank, New Jersey, a victim of the Coronavirus. Mike was born in Harlem, Manhattan, New York and then moved to Staten Island at the age of 8. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from New Dorp High School in 1963. He was employed by New York Telephone Company which was part of AT&T and worked his way through all the company changes for 36 years, retiring from Verizon in September 2000, one year prior to the attack on the Twin Towers in 2001. His offices were on the top floor of the South tower and he would have been there on that fateful day. He drove the autistic children for the Shamrock Bus Company in Keansburg until he was too sick with Parkinson's.
Mike was a devoted husband of Frances Stazzone Mazzaro of 55 years and were sweethearts for 5 years from freshman year in New Dorp. He is survived by his sons, James and his wife Suzanne and Michael and his wife, Patricia, his daughter Bernadette Amato Mazzaro, the apple of his eye. Mike is also survived by his six grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Brittany, Lauren Amato and future husband, Eric Filozof, Grace, Peter Amato, Julianne, Jessica and Dominick and a great-grandson, Nolan James, 5 months old and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Angela Serra, his dear brother-in-law, Joseph Stazzone and his wife Rita, who loved him as only a brother can and cared for him when he entered the nursing home three years ago.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. Due to the current COVID-19 health crisis, visitation and services will be held privately for the immediate family only. In respect of Michael's wishes, he will be privately cremated.
