Mary Anne Oty

Mary Anne Oty, who was known for her loving nature and kind spirit, passed away on August 1, 2026, at Arnold Walter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, at the age of 101.

Born on May 31, 1925, in Greenport, New York, she was the daughter of Sterling and Lena (Howard) Rouse. Mary grew up in Greenport surrounded by her loving family, and the values that were instilled in her there remained with her throughout her life.

In 1956, Mary and her beloved husband, Louis Oty, settled in Hazlet, New Jersey, where they built their home and raised their family. Their life together was marked by steadfast love, shared purpose, and a deep commitment to one another. In 1990, they retired to Cheesequake Village in Matawan, New Jersey, where Mary continued to enjoy the comfort of community and the company of family and friends.

Mary worked for many years as a sales associate for Sears in Middletown, where she was appreciated for her dedication and dependable work ethic. She also served in employment with the United States Government, reflecting her sense of responsibility and commitment to service. Through her work, she demonstrated the same steady character and gracious manner that defined her life beyond the workplace.

While living in Hazlet, Mary was an active member in the Saint Clement’s Senior Center, as well as the Keyport Senior Center and the Matawan Senior Center. She valued the friendships and fellowship she found in these communities and enjoyed being involved in activities that brought people together. Mary was also a devout parishioner of St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church in Holmdel, where her faith remained an important and guiding part of her life.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Sterling and Lena (Howard) Rouse, her beloved husband, Louis Oty, her dear son, Mark Oty, and her son-in-law, Ronald Burns. She is survived by her loving daughter, Tina Burns; her cherished grandchildren, Erin and Ronald Burns; her treasured great-grandchildren, Ashley Almeidinha, Brittany Almeidinha, Hayleigh Burns, Gavin Burns, McKenna Burns, and Cameron Burns; and her adored great-great-grandchildren, Jasper, Nova Agostini. Her family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in each generation that followed her.

Mary will be remembered as a loving and kind woman whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around her. She lived a long and meaningful life filled with devotion to her family, faith, and community. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her, and her legacy of kindness will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
