Marilyn G. Yelenock, 81, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away, surrounded by the love of her family, on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.
Born on August 7, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, Marilyn was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose life was marked by devotion, warmth, and quiet strength. She was raised in Brooklyn, where she learned the values of family, hard work, and kindness that would guide her throughout her life. Marilyn met the love of her life, John Patrick Yelenock, at Hunter Mountain, New York, and the two fell deeply in love. They were united in marriage on October 2, 1971, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared purpose.
In 1975, Marilyn and John made their home in Hazlet, New Jersey, where they remained and raised their family. Marilyn devoted herself wholeheartedly to her home and children during their younger years, choosing to be an excellent homemaker and a steady, loving presence in the lives of her family. She became deeply involved in the children’s PTO and was known for her commitment, her willingness to help, and the genuine care she showed to those around her. Her family , which always came first was the center of her life, and she embraced her role with grace and pride.
Marilyn later retired from Hazlet Township after many years of faithful service as a secretary in various departments, most recently in the Special Services Department. She was respected for her dedication, reliability, and kind spirit. Her work reflected the same qualities she carried into every part of her life, and she left a lasting impression on the many people with whom she worked over the years.
A Christian by faith, Marilyn lived her life with compassion and humility. She was loving, kind, and creative, and those qualities were evident in the way she cared for others and in the many interests she enjoyed. In her younger years, she loved bowling and traveling, and through those experiences she made lifelong friends who remain present in her life. She was also an avid crafter and gardener, and her famous rose bush will be remembered by many who knew and loved her. In later years, as Marilyn and John became empty nesters, they enjoyed spending time together at the Airport Bar and Liquors in Hazlet, where they formed new friendships that became like family. Those relationships brought joy to her life and reflected her natural ability to make others feel welcome and valued.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and May (Steiner) Kearns, her beloved and devoted husband of 51 years, John Patrick Yelenock, and her cherished grandson, Finnegan Patrick. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Stacey Yelenock, Debbie Morgan and her husband Eric, Sharon Summerer and her husband Dustin, Jan Pigott and her husband Michael. She is also survived by her adored granddaughters, Emma June, Harper Grace, and Hadley Sage. Also surviving are the many neighbors and friends who became a part of Marilyn’s family through the years and who will forever hold her memory close.
Marilyn’s life was one of devotion to family, friendship, and the simple joys that made each day meaningful. She will be remembered for her loving heart, her creative spirit, and the kindness she extended so freely to others. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the many lives she touched with her warmth and generosity. She will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.
