Maria Acquazzino, 91, known lovingly as Mary, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at Sunrise of Marlboro, surrounded by the quiet dignity and grace that marked her long and beautiful life. Born on May 11, 1934, in Frasso Telisino, Italy, she lived 91 years filled with devotion to her family, steadfast love, and the simple joys that made her life so meaningful to those who knew her.
Mary was the daughter of the late Alfonso and Antonette (Argenzeano) Martino. She grew up in Frasso Telisino, a small town in the Benevento province of Naples, Italy, where she learned the values of hard work, family, and faith that would guide her throughout her life. As a teenager, she immigrated to the United States and began a new chapter in Brooklyn, New York, carrying with her the traditions and spirit of her Italian upbringing.
While living in Brooklyn, Mary met the love of her life, Frank Acquazzino. They were married on April 17, 1955, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted until his passing. Together, they built a loving home and started their family in Brooklyn before settling in Staten Island in 1965, where they remained to raise their children. Mary embraced her role as wife and mother with unwavering devotion, creating a home filled with care, comfort, and the traditions that bound her family together. Her love for her family was evident in all she did.
Before her retirement, Mary worked for many years as a very talented seamstress. Her skill, patience, and attention to detail were reflected in her work, and she took pride in doing everything with care.
Mary was a loving and gentle woman whose greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She especially cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she treasured every moment she shared with them. She also deeply enjoyed spending her summers in Italy, returning to the country where she was born and holding close the memories and connections that remained dear to her throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank Acquazzino, and by her daughter, Antonette Acquazzino. Mary is survived by her loving children, Joseph Acquazzino and his wife Peggi, Rosemarie Hosmer and her husband Frank, and Susan Sveva and her husband Gary. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Frank Hosmer Jr., Nicole Tortora, Melissa Ferlazzo, Laura Garofalo, Christie Acquazzino, Frank Sveva, and Nicholas Sveva, along with 9 adored great-grandchildren, and her cherished friend of over 60 years, who was always there for her, Patricia Driscoll. Her family was the center of her world, and her legacy will live on through each of them.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Mary on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 11:30 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733. Entombment will follow at The Cemetery of the Resurrection, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10309.
