Margarita Taflambas Obituary

Margarita Taflambas, 89, of Freehold, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. She was born Margarita Galatis on November 30, 1934, in Ithaki, Greece, where she was raised. In June 1959, while he was visiting family in Greece, she met her beloved husband, Spiros, and fell in love instantly. Because he needed to return to his home in the United States, they were married in Greece within a short time. She left her home in Greece to start her life with her husband in Astoria, New York. A few years later, they relocated to Washington Heights, New York, where they remained for eight years before purchasing a home in Astoria. Ten years ago, to be closer to her children, Margarita moved to Freehold, New Jersey.

Throughout her life, Margarita worked at home as a seamstress. She sewed and altered bridal dresses, beautiful suits, other garments and home accessories for herself, family and friends. She was also known for her delicious Greek pastries and salad. Most of all, Margarita was recognized for her immensely kind and forgiving personality. She was adored by all who knew her. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and found the goodness in all. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Margarita will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Christine (Mihalopoulos) Galatis; her beloved husband, Spiros Taflambas; her sister, Pipina Katsamas, and her husband, John.  Margarita is survived by her loving children, Aris Taflambas and his wife, Maryann, of Medford; Katherine Flathmann and her husband, Richard, of Monroe; and Michael Taflambas and his wife, Donna, of Freehold; her dear sister-in-law, Toula Tsatsis; her cherished grandchildren, Tara Chipps, Lauren Taflambas, Daniel DeDonno and his girlfriend, Megan, Candice Flathmann and her husband, Arin, and Melissa Thomas and her husband, Brandon; and her treasured great grandchildren, Addison, Kaaden, Harlowe, Elaina, and Avary; along with many dear nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
