Margaret “Peg” Harrington, a loving and kind woman who was cherished by all who knew her, was born on December 2, 1934, in Manhattan, New York, and passed away peacefully at home in Aberdeen, New Jersey, on September 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Peg was the beloved daughter of John Michael and Nellie (Ellen O’Connor) Harrington. She grew up surrounded by the love of her family and carried those early values of faith, loyalty, and devotion throughout her life. In 1952, the family moved from Manhattan to the Bronx. In 1970 Peg, her parents, and her Uncle Tim made their home in Matawan Township, now known as Aberdeen, where they remained. These places were all part of the story of a life well lived, and Peg remained deeply connected to the people and memories that shaped her.
She graduated from Cathedral High School in Manhattan, New York, and soon after began what would become a long and successful career with AT&T. Through her years of service, Peg was known for her dedication, reliability, and quiet strength.
Peg was a parishioner of Saint Benedict Roman Catholic Church in Holmdel, New Jersey, where her faith was an important part of her life.
Family was at the center of Peg’s world. She especially treasured the time she spent with those she loved, and she found great joy in the simple, meaningful moments they shared together. She enjoyed spending time with family, and among her happiest memories were the days spent at the “beautiful sea,” her beloved condo in Belmar, New Jersey.
Peg was predeceased by her beloved parents, John Michael and Nellie (Ellen O’Connor) Harrington, and by her dear siblings and their spouses, John “Jack” Harrington and his wife Eileen, Thomas “Joe” Harrington and his wife Dee, and James “Jim” Harrington and his wife Eileen. She was also predeceased by a wonderful nephew, Kenny. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Maureen and her husband Jon, Christine, John and his wife Susan, Peggy Ann and her husband Brendan, Kathleen and her husband John, Barbara, Tom and his wife Lee, Laura, Brian and his wife MaryPat, and Marion and her husband Bill. Peg’s family will remember her for her loving nature, her kind spirit, and the steady presence she brought into their lives.
Peg, is also survived by her nephew John’s wife Sue who was her primary caretaker at the end, and their daughter Eileen who was considered a granddaughter by Aunt Peg. Lastly surviving is her loving pet Kona.
Rest In Peace Aunt Peg, you will be missed.
