Margaret R (Costello) Dempsey

Margaret R. Dempsey, 81, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at NYU Langone Hospital.  She was born Margaret Rose Costello on June 20, 1943, grew up in Bay Ridge, and raised her family in Park Slope, where she remained.  In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed gardening and every day at 7:00 PM she could be found watching Jeopardy with Alex Trebek, a love that she passed on to some of her children and her grandchildren.  She adored all things “1950’s”, especially the beautiful classic style that came along with it, and loved strawberry shortcake.  Most of all, Margaret was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  She will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Julia (Hynes) Costello, and her siblings, Ann Marie Costello, Thomas Costello, John Costello, and Kevin Costello.  Margaret is survived by her husband, Patrick H. Dempsey, her loving children, Mark D. Barry and his husband, Pierre-Yves Lagroue, of Paris, France, Patrick H. Dempsey Jr., and his wife Laura, of Middletown, New Jersey, and Matthew I. Dempsey and his wife, Megan, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, her dear sisters, Helen Farrar and Sheila Pedersen, and her cherished grandchildren, Emma and Patrick Dempsey, along with many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
