In the morning of October 23, 2024, Lou DiBarba passed away peacefully in his beloved home of 54 years in Hazlet. His loved ones were at his side including his wife of 42 years Susan.
Lou was born December 13, 1941 in Jersey City NJ to parents Ronald and Catherine Piombino DiBarba. He grew up attending St. Paul’s School, a brief stint at St. Michael’s High School and graduated from Snyder High School. He went on to work at the C.F. Mueller Co., a long established macaroni company in Jersey City. He worked his way up to production manager and his career spanned 38 years until his retirement. His co-workers became like family to him and he so looked forward to going to work on the train and PATH to and from Hazlet. It was there that he met his wife Susan and they were wed in 1982. “Lou and Sue in ‘82
Lou’s children were raised in Hazlet and Lou devoted his time and energy becoming involved with the HYAL and lots of league games including baseball, football, basketball and even Powder Puff football. Then the grandchildren came along and he tried to attend all their Soccer matches. Lou loved his sports teams, The New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Go Yankees!
Lou and Sue did some traveling and visits included Italy, other countries in Europe, Ireland the British Isles, the Caribbean, Mexico and multiple trips around the USA. He also loved being outdoors working on his lawn and relaxing on the deck afterwards. It was very convenient that Lou worked at the spaghetti factory because he loved his Sunday spaghetti and meatballs.
It became harder and harder to do the things he loved as his disease progressed. He battled and loved doing his rock steady boxing which helped him for a good while. He will be deeply missed by very good friends of many years and by his family that loved and respected him for his kindness and caring.
Louis is predeceased by his parents, Ronald and Catherine (Piombino) DiBarba, and his dear sister, Arlene Bowen. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 42 years, Susan H. (Sullivan) DiBarba, his loving children, Michael DiBarba and his wife, Caitlin, of Hamilton, Susan Helmstetter and her husband, Richard, of Hazlet, Lori DiBarba of Matawan, and James DiBarba and his wife, Rachel, of Forked River, his “bonus daughter” Dawn Chadwick and her husband, Michael, of Hazlet, and his dear brother, Ronald DiBarba of John’s Island, South Carolina.
