Lillian Ann (McGagh) Roddy

Lillian Ann Roddy was a faith-filled, loving, and courageous wife, Mom, and Nana. She was known to many as Ann.  She passed away peacefully with the love of her whole family holding her hand and heart on June 24, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born February 21, 1933, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Ann was the daughter of the late Martin and Nora (McLaughlin) McGagh. She grew up in Dorchester and Winthrop, and even in her last days she still smiled at the thought of Point Shirley. Her family created a strong foundation of faith and grit that guided her throughout her life. After graduating from Emmanuel College and teaching in Sunderland, MA for a few years, Ann accepted a teaching position on a U.S. Military base in Germany, where she taught third grade. It was at daily Mass in Stuttgart that she caught the eye of a handsome Army officer, Robert E. Roddy. They began dating and it blossomed into true love. They were married in Germany on July 16, 1960.

Ann and Bob lived a life of adventure, resilience, and unity, moving every few years with their four children during Bob’s military service. She was unwavering in her commitment to him and the family while also maintaining her own career as a teacher. She had the remarkable ability to create a cozy and loving home for her family no matter where they were stationed or what the circumstances were.  

In 1994, they settled in Aberdeen, New Jersey, where they created their final home to enjoy with their children, grandchildren, and grand-dogs Charley, Riley, and Levi. Their home also became a place where Ann was a living St. Francis. She loved all animals, the yard was a haven for all bunnies, chipmucks, squirrels and a variety of birds to enjoy the Blessed Mother statue, unlimited nuts and seeds, and fresh water in the birdbaths. She also often spoke fondly of her favorite childhood dog, Dukie.  She loved sewing, quilting, and embroidery, and she was very generous with the beauty she created with her hands.

As a Catholic woman of strong faith, she lived her beliefs through kindness and generosity for others. She spent many of her days at daily Mass at Saint Benedict Roman Catholic Church in Holmdel, New Jersey, where she was a devoted member of the parish.

Lillian was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert E. Roddy, and by her siblings Mary McGagh, Thomas (Margie) McGagh, Therese (Bill) Griffiths, Jack McGagh, and Paulie McGagh. She is survived by her loving children: James Roddy and his wife Margaret, John Roddy and his partner James Lattanzi, Mary Roddy, and Joseph Roddy and his wife Yvonne. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Stephanie, Katy and her husband Noah, Martin, Lillian, Bridget, Jack, James, Liam, Jacinta, and Claire. She loves each of them deeply.

Ann’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Ann was consistent in her prayers for all her family and we are confident those prayers will continue from Heaven.  She will be greatly missed, always loved, and never forgotten.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Saint Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07730. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, New Jersey 08562.
