Judith "Judy" Surko Obituary

Judith E. Surko, fondly known as “Judy”, 70, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel.  She was born Judith E. Zebro on June 29, 1954, in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in Clark.  On June 28, 1980, Judy and her husband, Craig, were married and began their life together in Linden, where they started their family.  Shortly after, they moved to Clark, before settling in Hazlet in 1988, where they remained to raise their family.  Throughout her life, she worked as a nurse and nurse manager. She began her career in Rahway Hospital, where she remained for 25 years.  Most recently, she worked for Riverview Medical Center for 21 years as a Critical Care Nurse Manager and Manager of the Remote Telemetry Monitoring Unit. Judy was an exceptional nurse.  She had a passion for her line of work and taking care of those in need and over the course of her career, received many awards recognizing her dedication to her field.

Judy was known for her delicious Italian cooking (especially Eggplant Parmigiana) and her love of shopping.  Some of her favorite stores to frequent were Hobby Lobby, Sam’s Club and Home Goods.  She had a lifelong passion for decorating for the holidays, filling every space with warmth and beauty—especially at Christmas, when her home sparkled with joy, lights, and love.  Judy had a kind and loving heart, always putting others above herself.  Most of all, she adored her family, especially her three granddaughters who were the center of her universe.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Josephine (DeLaurentis) Zebro.  Judy is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 44 years, Craig J. Surko, her loving children, Nicole Notaroberto and her husband, Nicholas, of Toms River, Kimberly Wyluda and her husband, Edward, of Toms River, and Craig M. Surko of Hazlet, and her dear sisters, Beverly Marinelli and her husband, James, and Sharon Crelin and her husband, Paul.  Judy also leaves behind her cherished granddaughters, Adelina, Alessia, and Arianna, her treasured grand-dogs, Cayenne and Jeter, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
