Juan "John" A Ortiz Sr.

Juan A. Ortiz, Sr., 95, lovingly known as “John”, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Bayshore Medical Center, Holmdel, New Jersey.  John was born on July 13, 1929, in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico where he was raised.  In 1947 he moved to Brooklyn, New York. John met the love of his life, Eneida “Neddy” Rios, in Brooklyn, New York and they were happily married on September 21, 1957. They remained in Brooklyn, where together they raised their children.  In 2004, they moved to Hazlet, New Jersey to be closer to their children.  John worked for Detecto Scales, Brooklyn, New York for many years as a complex scaler.  He later went to work and retired from Macy’s, Kings Plaza, Brooklyn, where he was a popular salesman.  He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach, New Jersey.  

One of John’s favorite past times was working with wood and crafting religious art work.  He also loved spending time with family and friends.  John was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten. 

John was predeceased by his parents, Francisco and Carmen (Garcia) Ortiz, his cherished son, Andrew M. Ortiz, and his siblings, Frank Ortiz and Carmen Arcuri.  He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Eneida “Neddy” (Rios) Ortiz, his caring children, John A. Ortiz Jr of Hazlet, New Jersey and Christine DeNora and her husband Lewis of Manalapan, New Jersey, his adoring granddaughter, Danielle Nicholson and her husband Thomas and his soon-to-be great grandson, Giovanni Lewis Nicholson.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey   07730.  A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
