Josephine H. Madden, 90, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Care One King James in Atlantic Highlands. She was born Josephine H. Durante on April 10, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up and met her beloved husband, Thomas. On June 6, 1959, Josephine and Thomas were married and began their life together in Brooklyn, New York. Shortly after, they settled in Long Island, New York, where they began their family and fifty years ago, they settled in Hazlet, New Jersey.
In her younger years, Josephine had a passion for fashion and fashion design. After her graduation, she began working for Henry Bendel in Manhattan and was able to pursue her passion for a short period of time. She then went on to continue with her education in secretarial school and began working for Statler Hotel in Manhattan, where she and Thomas held their wedding reception. Most of All, Josephine was a beautiful person, not only on the outside, but more importantly, on the inside as well. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Jean (Iaccorino) Durante, her beloved husband, Thomas F. Madden, her dear sister, Rose Santoro, her cherished granddaughter, Rebecca Madden, and her brothers-in-law, Pat Dentale, Vic Conte, Charlie Santoro. Josephine is survived by her loving children, Thomas Madden and his wife, Wendy, of Aberdeen, Christopher K. Madden and his wife, Caitlin, of Toms River, Kelly A. Madden of Vero Beach, Florida, and Suzanne Harris and her husband, Kirk, of Middletown, and her dear siblings, Lorraine Dentale, Doris Conte, Peter Durante and his wife, Margaret, John Durante and his wife, Cathy, and Phyllis Cromer. Josephine also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Christine Johnson, Victoria DuDasko and her husband Justin, Leigh Ann Madden, Stephen Madden, Alexandra Harris, Jessica Hurst and her husband Micah, Jonathan Madden, Kirk Harris, Christopher Madden, Alyssa Harris, Joshua, Jacob, and Jaxon Madden, and her adored great grandchildren, Eli, Isaac, and Connor.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Monday morning, November 29, 2021 from 10:15 to 11:00 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A prayer service will be offered for Josephine during visitation hours on Monday morning. Entombment will follow at Green Grove Cemetery Mausoleum in Keyport at 11:30 AM.
