Josephine F. Gill, 84, of Matawan, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home on Thursday evening, March 18, 2021. She was born Josephine F. Episcopo on April 27, 1936 in Orange, New Jersey, where she grew up. In 1953, Josephine and her husband, James, were married and began their life together in Hazlet where they raised their family. In 2010, they settled in Matawan, New Jersey.
Josephine was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother who was extremely devoted to her family. She was a fabulous Italian cook and was especially known for her outstanding lasagna amongst her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bingo and card games and visiting Atlantic City.
She was predeceased by her parents, Felice and Nicholina (Ruina) Episcopo and her beloved husband, James Bernard Gill. Josephine is survived by her loving children, Joann Burgos and her husband, Kenneth, of Hazlet, Arlene Kirby and her husband, John, of Hazlet/Florida, Theresa Rost and her husband, Richard, of Jacksonville, Florida, and James Gill and his wife, Jill, of Tinton Falls, and her dear siblings, Dominick Episcopo and his wife, Roselyn, and Phyllis Carras and her husband, George. Josephine also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Kari Burgos, Kenneth Burgos, John Kirby, Joseph Kirby, Michelle Rost, Kristen Rost, Jim Gill, and Nick Gill, her adored great grandchildren, Caitlin Burgos, Madelyn Burgos, Joselyn Burgos, Charlotte Kirby, and baby boy Ebbesen on the way, her beloved friend and care-giver, Nina, and many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Josephine will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday morning, March 24, 2021 from 8:15 to 9:00 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday morning, March 24, 2021 at 9:30 AM at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 727 Highway 36, Union Beach, New Jersey 07735. Entombment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1722 Silverton Road, Toms River, New Jersey. As per the regulations imposed through the State of New Jersey, there will now be a maximum of 100 persons allowed in the funeral home at one time.
