Joe Murray, age 67, of Union Beach, New Jersey, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and loved ones, due to complications related to 9/11.
Born in the Bronx and raised in Brooklyn, Joe eventually made his home in Union Beach, where he built a life rooted in family, hard work, and community. A respected leader in the construction industry, Joe was the backbone of several large construction firms. His work helped reshape the New York City skyline and contributed to the construction of the instantly recognizable Venetian in Las Vegas—projects he took great pride in.
In the aftermath of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Joe was immensely proud that his firm volunteered its time and resources to assist in the recovery efforts, a reflection of his deep sense of duty and compassion.
Joe had a lifelong passion for baseball and was a walking encyclopedia of facts and statistics about America’s pastime. He also found great joy in nature, spending time in his backyard where he proudly held the title of grill master and took pleasure in feeding and watching his birds.
Joe leaves behind his beloved wife, Laura; daughters Jessica (Ernie) Buck and Megan (Patrick Lenti) Murray; sons John (Manuela) Murray and Ryan Murray; sisters Kathleen (Steve Calabro) Murray and Marge (Sal) Marullo; brothers John (Terri) Murray and Kevin (Terry) Murray; grandson, Declan and granddaughters Emily and Kayle, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Eileen Murray.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
