Joseph R. Mercogliano, lovingly known as Bob, of Union Beach, passed away on May 20, 2026, at Bayshore Medical Center, at the age of 87.
Born on January 27, 1939, in Manhattan, Bob lived in various places throughout his life, but spent most of his years in Union Beach, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and devotion to those he loved. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, carrying with him the values of service, discipline, and commitment that remained with him throughout his life.
Bob was a dedicated and hardworking man who retired after more than 30 years as a vending service mechanic for Mycor Services in Paterson. He took pride in his work and was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and quiet dependability. Those who knew him appreciated the steady presence he brought to every part of his life, whether at work, at home, or among family and friends.
Above all else, Bob treasured the time he spent with his family. His family was his priority, and he found his greatest joy in being surrounded by the people he loved most. He was a loving, kind, and selfless man whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of many. His presence brought comfort, his words brought reassurance, and his actions reflected the deep care he had for others.
Bob enjoyed many simple pleasures in life, including camping, cooking, bowling, and crabbing. These hobbies brought him happiness and gave him opportunities to share meaningful moments with those around him. Whether he was spending time outdoors, preparing a meal, or enjoying a day with family, Bob embraced life with appreciation and sincerity. He especially valued the memories created through these shared experiences, and those moments will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank J. and Eva Mercogliano, his beloved wife, Margaret (White) Mercogliano, and several siblings. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life. Bob is survived by his loving children, Robert J. Mercogliano and his wife Christie, Megan Mercogliano, Gail Marie Mercogliano, Tara O’Neill and Kevin O'Neill and his wife Sharon. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Kristen, Samantha, Dylan, Tyler, Lucy, Elsa, Cody, Randy, Amanda, Fallon, Louie, Ryan, Cory, Kamrin, and Chandler, as well as his adored great-grandchildren, Skylar, Gabriel, and Beau. He is also survived by his dear sister, Phyllis Waterfall, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Bob’s life was one of devotion, humility, and love. He will be remembered for the strength of his character, the kindness he showed to others, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.
