Joseph A. Mennella, 96, of Hazlet, New Jersey, formerly of Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Laurel Bay Nursing Home in Keansburg, New Jersey. Joseph was born on June 16, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up and lived for all of his life. About 5 years ago, Joseph moved to Hazlet, New Jersey to be closer to his family. Before retirement, Joseph worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation for many years. He was also a proud veteran, having served our country in World War II with the United States Army. Joseph was a member of the American Legion, as well as the Antique Car Club of America. In addition, Joseph also worked as an Auto Mechanic. Most of all, Joseph was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Susan (Grillo) Mennella and his beloved and devoted wife, Marie C. Mennella. Joseph is survived by her loving children, Joseph E. Mennella, Susan Ely and her husband, Howard, and Linda Miller and her husband, Jeffrey, his cherished grandchildren, Christine Ribeiro, Alison Terefenko, Teresa Fedo and Lisa Miller-Samber, and his adored great grandchildren, Jared, Jordan, Adelina, Shawn, Noelle, and Victoria. Joseph will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM and Monday morning, March 9, 2020 from 9:45 to 10:30 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday morning, March 9, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 376 Maple Place, Keyport, New Jersey 07735.
