Joseph H Marques

Joseph H. Marques, 91, of Middletown, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Brighton Gardens of Middletown.  Joseph was born on August 10, 1929 in Bayonne, New Jersey. Due to the Great Depression, at the age of two, Joseph’s family returned to Moscavide, Portugal, where he was raised. At the age of 18, Joseph returned to America, starting his life in Newark, New Jersey, where he met his beloved wife, Helen.  In 1950, Joseph and Helen were married and shortly after settled in North Arlington, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their two sons.  In the early 1990’s Joseph and Helen retired to Whiting, New Jersey and in 2016, Joseph ultimately settled at Brighton Gardens in Middletown.

Joseph worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for PSEG and retired after 40 years of service.  He was the third founding member of the Portuguese sports club “Lar Dos Leoes de New Jersey” in Newark, New Jersey, and was also a member of Sport Club Portuguese.  Joseph loved soccer and in his spare time, enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City.

He was predeceased by his parents, Abilio and Carolina (Costa) Marques, his beloved wife, Helen (Villas) Marques, and his dear brother, Fernando Marques.  Joseph is survived by his loving sons, Glenn Marques and his wife, Audrey, of Belleville, Illinois, and Joseph Marques and his wife, Diana, of Hazlet, New Jersey, his cherished grandchildren, Michael and his partner, Rachel, Elizabeth and her husband, Brian, Melissa, and Leigh, his adored great grandchildren, Elena, Michael Jr., Summer, Autumn, and Lincoln, his dear sister-in-law, Manuela, and treasured nieces, Christina and Stephanie.  Joseph will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
