Joseph Carroll Obituary

Joseph E. Carroll, 94, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel.  Joseph was born on November 23, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah and grew up in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Joseph joined the United States Army and while serving in Indianapolis, he met his beloved wife, Doris.  He was also stationed in Germany for a period of time.  Joseph and Doris were married on June 27, 1953 and started their life together in Philadelphia.  After their marriage, Joseph attended LaSalle College in Philadelphia, where he received his bachelor’s degree.  A few years later in 1958, they settled in Hazlet to raise their family.  Before Joseph’s retirement, he worked for Domino Sugar Company as a production manager for many years.

While living in Hazlet, Joseph was very involved in his community.  He was a member of the Hazlet Zoning Board.  He also volunteered at Bayshore Medical Center as a Eucharistic Minister for over 25 years, as well as volunteering at various prisons spreading God’s word to the inmates.  Joseph was a devout parishioner of St. Benedict Church in Holmdel.  He was a Faithful Navigator and 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Keyport Council #3402.  In addition, Joseph taught CCD and pre-cana with St. Joseph Parish in Keyport.

Any who knew Joe, knew he was an avid Eagles Fan.  He spent countless Sunday’s rooting for his favorite team with his family and friends.  In his passing, we will think of him as soaring with the eagles.  “Fly Eagles, Fly!”  Above all else, Joseph was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many.  He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

He was predeceased by his parents, Marie (Kane) and Joseph H. Carroll.  Joseph is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 69 years, Doris B. Carroll, his loving children, Susan Smith and her husband, Robert, of Copper Canyon, Texas, Peggy Brady and her husband, Brian, of Hazlet, Mary O’Shaughnessy and her husband, Christopher, of Brick, Bill Carroll and his wife, Karen, of East Brunswick, John J. Carroll of Atlantic City, and Catherine Rossi and her husband, Dave, of Nottingham, United Kingdom, and his dear brother, Donald Carroll and his wife, Gail.  Joseph also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Logan and her husband, Jordan, Shane and his fiancée, Thania, Collin and his wife, Elizabeth, Connor, Christopher II and his wife, Dianne, Meaghan, Matthew and his wife, Koryn, Angelina, Mitchell and his wife, Fifi, and Luke, and his treasured great grandchildren, Reagan, Kayden, Christopher III, Elise, and Jordan.
