John W. Hamlin, fondly known as “Jack,” 82, of Matawan, NJ, passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of May 17, 2022. John was born on June 11, 1939 in Newark, NJ, and grew up in Belleville, before moving to Hazlet shortly after high school. He eventually married his wife Patricia on August 26th, 1971, and they spent the rest of their lives together in Matawan, NJ. For the bulk of his career Jack was a mechanic, working for Homelite and Semcor Equipment. In retirement he enjoyed a vibrant second act as a “wheeler and dealer” at Englishtown and Collingswood auctions, where he was a weekly regular.
Jack also liked to spend time with family, and take monthly bus trips with his brother to Atlantic City, not so much to gamble, but more to enjoy the trip. He was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, who will never be forgotten.
Jack is predeceased by his parents John & Virginia Hamlin and his wife Patricia (nee Walker) Hamlin. He is survived by his children John Hinds, Tim Hinds, Janine Acerra (Hinds), Virginia Hamlin and Jack Hamlin, and his grandchildren Shawn, Amy, Brielle, Brandi, Kristen, Joe, Kody, Amanda, Kiera and Juliet, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Russ Hamlin, Patricia Medefindt and Carol Francese, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, May 20, 2022, from 4:00PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday May 21, 2022, from 9:15AM to 10:00AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. Burial will follow at Holmdel Cemetery & Mausoleum, 900 Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ, 07733. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack's honor the the Deborah Heart & Lung Center.
