John Patrick Yelenock, 77, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully at Bayshore Hospital on March 31, 2023. John was born in Manhattan, New York on March 17, 1946 to parents John and Anne (Boitson) Yelenock. John was a proud member of the United States Army and served his country bravely during the Vietnam War. He worked as a Video Tape Editor for the CBS Morning News in New York City for over 43 years. This career led him to travel all over and allowed for some fond memories his daughters had of him on the news station. John married the love of his life Marilyn on October 2, 1971 and they celebrated 51 years of blissful marriage together.
John was a man of many talents. To most, he was known as the “well of knowledge,” because he always knew a little bit about everything. He was a collector; stamps, coins, cards, beanie-babies, you name it. He enjoyed golf in his younger years, and wood-working, along with challenging his mind with puzzles like Sudoku. John loved to watch Discovery Channel, and of course, America’s Got Talent, which he thought was much better than American Idol. In addition to being a proud veteran, John was also a member of the local Knights of Columbus, and the Middletown ELKS club.
The most important thing for John was his family. He was always known as a family man, but more-so the guy you could meet at the bar and have an entire conversation with. Ask anyone at the Airport Plaza Bar, Aders, or Dowlings, John was the man to have a beer with or play darts with (which he was quite good at). He built relationships with everyone he talked to. The best thing he would cheers to every year was his birthday, or as he would think, the day the whole world dressed in green and celebrated him. His love for people has been shown throughout recent times with the overwhelming love the family has received with word of his passing. Although he will be sadly missed, John will never be forgotten.
John is predeceased by his parents John and Anne (Boitson) Yelenock, and his grandson Finnegan Patrick. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years Marilyn (Kearns) Yelenock, his loving daughters Stacey Yelenock, Debbie Morgan and her husband Eric, Sharon Summerer and her husband Dustin, and Jan Pigott and her husband Michael, his adoring grandchildren Emma June, Harper Grace and Hadley Sage, his brother Richard Yelenock and his wife Catherine, and many extended family and friends, who of course, became family.
